Specifications: Liquefied Natural Gas
Natural Gas is
a colorless, odorless mixture of gases made up mostly of methane
(CH4). Other gases that can form part of natural gas include small
amounts of ethane (C2H6), propane (C3H8) and butane (C4H10). Natural
Gas liquefies at a temperature of minus 161 degrees Celsius.
Natural Gas is
the cleanest burning fossil fuel. It produces virtually no solid waste
and lower levels of greenhouse gases. When you use Natural Gas less
carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere than when other fossil
fuels are used. Carbon dioxide is a major cause of the Greenhouse
Effect and by using Natural Gas instead of electricity or other fossil
fuels you can significantly reduce the amount of carbon dioxide
released into the atmosphere. A gas fuelled power station could be
considered environmentally friendly compared to those burning coal or
other fossil fuels. Gas is also economical and can be used at around
half the cost of electricity.
Liquefied Petroleum Gas (also called LPG,
LP Gas, or autogas) is a mixture of Hydroarbon gases
used as a fuel in heating appliances and vehicles, and increasingly
replacing Chlorofluorocarbons as an aerosol propellant and a
refrigerant to reduce damage to the Ozone Layer .
Varieties of LPG bought and sold include mixes that
are primarily Propane mixes that are primarily Butane
and the more common, mixes including both Propane (60%) and
Butane(40%), depending on the season in winter more propane, in summer
more butane. and are usually also present in small concentration. A
powerful odorant Ethanethiol is added so that leaks can be detected
easily. The international standard is EN 589. LPG is manufactured
during the refining of Crude Oil or extracted from oil or streams as
they emerge from the ground.
At normal temperatures and pressures, LPG will evaporate. Because
of this, LPG is supplied in pressurized bottles.
